Ambulance Medical

In line with EU directive if you passed your driving test after 1996 you no longer have C1 category on your licence automatically and must undergo a medical to gain the provisional entitlement.

An increasing number of universities require students to hold a provisional C1 licence prior to enrolling on paramedic courses so don’t delay in booking your D4 medical with D4Drivers and take the first step towards getting behind the wheel of an ambulance.

We are trusted by over 10,000 drivers a month to deliver medicals at 100+ locations nationwide for individuals and businesses.

Working With College Of Paramedics

D4Drivers has an excellent relationship with the College Of Paramedics and we offer a discount on D4 medicals for its members, as part of our appreciation for the NHS and emergency workers.

Discount is available for College Of Paramedics members who need a medical to apply for your provisional C1 licence or to renew an existing entitlement.

What’s Involved In The D4 Medical?

Our doctor will complete your full D4 medical for only £55. Your medical consists of an eyesight test using a Snellen chart, blood pressure checks to ensure your BP meets DVLA criteria and a questionnaire regarding your medical history.

The medical assessment includes checks for a number of standards that need to be met in order to be eligible to drive ambulance vehicles. The questionnaire includes questions regarding a range of medical and other issues such as epilepsy, seizures, diabetes, heart conditions and more, to ascertain if you meet the conditions to be granted a licence to drive ambulances .

Our doctor will complete your D4 form based on the responses you provide relating to your medical history, medications and the findings of your examination. The time taken to carry out an ambulance driver medical is around 15-20 minutes but this can depend on your health and medical history.

Who needs a medical in order to be able to drive an ambulance?

All current paramedics and ambulance drivers, including students, who passed their driving test on or after 1 January 1997 are required to pass a medical examination before being allowed to drive ambulances. Those who passed prior to this period will have the C1 category automatically added to their licence.

Why choose D4Drivers for your ambulance driver medical?

While you can get your medical done through your own GP, this will involve a cost that sometimes can be more than £100. We make the whole process easy for you with a cost-effective solution for just £55. Unlike some other medical assessment providers, our DVLA D4 medicals also include the eye test.

We can swiftly book you in for your medical appointment so you are not forced to wait several weeks, like you might have to if you were to go to your own GP for your medical assessment.
