If you are over 45 and want to exchange your EU licence to a UK driver licence, you must complete a D4 medical examination.
Need a group 2 driving licence to drive in the UK, but originally from the EU? Get an EU to UK driving licence medical and have your D4 form completed to be eligible to drive professionally in the UK.
All drivers who hold HGV/PCV entitlements and are over 45 must undergo a D4 medical with a GMC registered Doctor when changing an EU licence to UK group 2 driving licence.
Any GMC registered doctor can complete your medical and you do not have to visit your own GP for this medical. We can still carry out your D4 medical even if you are not registered with a GP surgery in the UK, just write ‘not registered’ on page 1 of the form.
Once you attend your £55 medical with our Doctor you simply send your D4 form to the DVLA to receive a UK licence.
You must be a resident with a permanent address in the UK (that you’ve lived in for at least 185 days) and have passed your driving test in an EU member country. If you are over 45, you must immediately undergo a D4 medical; if you are under 45 you do not require a medical until you reach this age.
Our Doctor will complete your full D4 medical, including the eyesight test, blood pressure check and medical history questionnaire, all for only £55. The questionnaire will ask about a range of health and medical issues such as epilepsy, seizures, insulin treated diabetes, and many other forms of medical conditions or medication, which could potentially prevent you meeting the conditions for a Group 2 licence.
For the vision requirement, you must meet 6/7.5 in one eye and 6/60 in the other on a 3 metre snellen chart. If you do wear driving glasses or lenses, you should bring these along with your current prescription to the assessment.
Our doctor will complete the D4 form on your behalf based on the answers you provide relating to your medical history, medications and the findings of your medical examination. An EU to UK driving licence medical normally takes around 10-20 minutes but this does depend on your health and medical history, after which you should be able to send on your D4 form to the DVLA in order to receive your UK licence.
While you can get your medical done through your GP, if you are registered with one in the UK, this can sometimes prove to be quite costly, sometimes more than £100. We make the whole process easy for those HGV/PCV drivers with an EU driving licence to obtain a UK driving licence.
Our cost efficient and high quality service will cost you just £55. Unlike some other medical assessment providers, our DVLA D4 medicals also include the eye test, making it much more convenient for you to get your form completed in one visit.
By choosing D4Drivers means you avoid unnecessary delay. We can get you booked in quickly for your medical, usually have you seen within a week, so you don’t have to join the queues that you might face if you tried to go through a UK based GP for your medical assessment.
D4Drivers have over 80 locations across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland and we examine over 9000 drivers a month. Many of our customers are drivers who have taken the decision to begin driving lorries or buses in the UK, changing an EU driving licence to a UK licence in the process.

We are experiencing significantly high call volumes and kindly ask that you book online where possible using our online booking portal.
Please note, in some locations we have longer wait times for appointments than usual. This is due to the expiration of thousands of short term licences granted during COVID-19. We sincerely apologise for any delays for appointments and thank you for your understanding whilst we work hard to meet demand across the UK.
All clinics are going ahead with additional safety precautions in place. You can feel safe in the knowledge that when you attend your appointment with D4Drivers extra precautions have been taken to ensure you are in a COVID safe environment, including regular cleaning of all surfaces and equipment and strict PPE and social distancing measures.
