Private Hire News has carried out a poll on what is the best option for driver medicals – and we think you will find the results very interesting.
Licensed Private Hire Car Association
The news magazine of the Licensed Private Hire Car Association asked the question: “Do you think taxi and PHV drivers should be able to undertake medicals via approved DVSA Group 2 medical providers as an alternative to seeing their GP?” and the response was:
- Yes – 82.1%
- No – 15.5%
- Undecided – 2.4%
The results of the poll only confirm what we have known for some time – medical providers are offering a reliable and cost-efficient alternative to NHS GPs whilst relieving some of the pressure the NHS is under, a view endorsed by the 5,000 drivers a month who are taking their medicals in the UK with D4Drivers.
Private Hire News said:
“It is clear from the poll that most responders recognise that properly vetted DVLA Group 2 medical providers (like D4Drivers) are a help to the NHS. They are a lot cheaper, far easier to use and can be easier for licensing authorities to manage.”
Positive comments
- “Just makes life simple”
- “Takes pressure away from your own GP”
- “Easier to fit into the time scale of completing the application”
- “This would take a lot of stress from us and hopefully it would be a lot cheaper”
- “Hopefully this may be quicker than seeing your own GP”
- “At a time when doctors are under immense pressure it makes sense to allow this to be done privately”
It was interesting to note that local authorities also responded positively to the poll.
The minority negative comments centred on the belief that only a driver’s own GP knew their health history and could compile an accurate report.
Relevant medical information
D4Drivers prepares our patients for their medical by ensuring they bring all relevant medical information and medications, hospital letters and consultant details, meaning our fully GMC registered and licensed doctors have everything they need to carry out the examination accurately and efficiently. For some local authorities depending on the requirements we go a step further and request a summary of medical records, or even full medical records, are brought to the examination. More information on how this works can be found here
At a time when GPs and the NHS are under increasing pressure, D4Drivers is ensuring that the nation’s drivers can crack on with getting their medical completed, normally within five working days. To book your D4Drivers medical, visit our website
